Founded by a group of 8 men and 1 woman in the winter of 1936, The Courts was the first indoor tennis club in the United States of America. It was constructed on 2.5 acres of land donated by the Ludington family in Wynnewood, PA. Designed by the architect James S. Hatfield, the facility contains two green clay tennis courts under a dramatic vaulted ceiling.
The strength of the club has always been in its membership. The Courts has never required superior tennis ability, but rather a love for the game and good sportsmanship. The Courts was founded as a way of uniting friends and competitors in good-spirited rivalry and animated sporting fun.
